The department of chemistry started from the beginning of the  college in 1981 for the Science course in pre-degree level. Retired Professors Smt.Mary Jacob, Sri.P.C. Joseph and Smt.Lincykutty Philip, Sri. E K Kuriakose  were the initial faculties of the department. The department of chemistry holds the privilege for having the first graduate and postgraduate course in the college.Bsc. Chemistry course started in 1991 and MSc. Chemistry course started in 1999.

           Prof. Mary Jacob was the head department from 1981 to 2015 till her retirement followed by Prof. Lincykutty Philip upto 2017. Currently Dr. Shiby Susan Kuriakose is serving as the head of the department. With seven teachers and two lab assistants this department is a mix of youth and experience. The department is known for its dedication in teaching and student friendly attitude. Several students from the departments have passed competitive exams in chemistry including NET, GATE and other entrance examinations.

                     Our department started NET coaching in 2016. Several programmes are arranged by our department to enlighten our students which include Seminars, Invited lectures, Quiz competitions, study tours, lab visits etc. The students are motivated to attend National and international seminars taking place in different parts of the state. We enjoy five class rooms, three spacious laboratories, a mini seminar hall with smart board, a department library and  computers with internet facilities within the department.
