History & Brief Description
The Department of Commerce was established in the year 1995 with the launch of B.Com Computer Application. The objective while founding the department was to impart education along with training and developing credible and competent professionals for the corporate and financial sector in India. The department was elevated to the status of P.G. Department of Commerce in the year 2004 with M.Com Finance. The department proceed with motto “To motive the weak, to address average and challenge the gifted”. Over the years the department was guided by the academic excellence of many prominent and renowned faculty members. It is the sense of gratitude that the invaluable contributions of all faculty members of yesteryears – Sr. Lecturer Venugopal G (up to 2000), Sr. Lecturer Johnikutty Mathew (up to 2000), Assoc. Prof. K.P. George, Assoc. Prof. Abraham Kuriakose, Dr. Mary P.U and Assoc. Prof. Mariamma Kuriakose are remembered. Apart from the Degree and PG Programmes, the Department conducts various certificate courses in association with reputed educational agencies and institutes. (i) A ‘Certificate Course in Diploma in Sales Tax Practice (DSTP)’ on the basis of a MOU with Tax Study Centre, Ernakulam, an authorised training centre of SIDCO; (ii) Computerized Accounting – Tally 9, Peachtree on the basis of a MOU with C–STED; (iii) JUx Online Certification Courses in area of GST, Financial Management, Technical Analysis and so on. The department also conducts an online programme in Business Accounting Process &ndash Executive in association with ArthaVidhya, Bangalore.
Apart from academic talents, the students of the Department have also excelled in co- curricular and extra-curricular activities. They have won several prizes and Championships at various inter-collegiate fests and competitions over the years.  The students of the Department brought laurels to the college by becoming Champions in various inter-collegiate competition/fests.
